Push Back Pallet Racking For High Density Storage Solution
Push back pallet rack is a semi-automated storage solution by making use of gravity. It contains inclined rails and a series of nested wheeled carts. Pallets will be placed on carts and these carts will move up or down angle rails when pallets are loaded or unloaded from the system.
Push back pallet racking system is ideal for warehouses in which space utilization and storage density are crucial such as cold storage and climate-controlled environments.
In push back pallet racking system, forklift operators only need to transport pallets to the pick face and do not have to drive into the system, reducing the number of aisles in the system and enhancing working efficiency.
Additionally, the nesting color-coded carts give this type of storage system higher selectivity because different SKUs can be distinguished by the color of carts. Therefore, multiple groups of SKUs can be stored on each row.

How does push back pallet racking system work?
For loading, the forklift operator puts pallets on carts directly. The first pallet will be placed on the top cart, and the second pallet will push the first pallet at the pick face back one position, and et cetera. It should be noted that the last pallet will directly rest on the rails.
As for unloading, front pallets work as brakes for back pallets. When the operator removes the pallet in the front position, the back carts with pallets will glide toward the pick face in one position for unloading. Thus, it creates a last-in, first-out high-density storage system.
Push-back rack can be a wall as a single-sided system if against a wall or as a double-sided system if built in the center of a facility. Push-back racking systems can be tailored to fit any operation and can store up to six pallets deep. It can accommodate almost any type of forklift. Because trucks never enter the system, damage to the uprights is minimal and requires little to no maintenance to the system.
The nested carts require low vertical space which gives plenty of vertical storage space for pallets in the system. Each cart is outfitted with stainless steel wheels and is durable for heavy loads or cold storage.
