Optional warehouse accessories pallet rack zinc wire mesh decks and shelves for storage
In modern warehouse storage, pallet rack wire decks are commonly used when extra storage shelves are demanded for non-palletized items. Though a simple structure, there are still some points that you should consider before choosing your wire decks wisely.
1. The types of beams
The commonly used beams are step beams, box beams, and structural beams. As we have mentioned before, for step beams, we usually choose U channels welded decking such as standard waterfall wire decks. And for box beam or structural beams, universal flared wire decks with flared channels are ideal solutions.
2. The type of decks
As we have talked about in the last part, the most popular wire decks are standard waterfall wire decks and universal flared wired decks. For specific requirements, you can choose among all the variations as long as they could accomplish the tasks.
3. The size of decks
Obviously, the size of the decks is determined by the size of the beams on which they are resting on.
a. The depth of the wire decking needs to comply with the depth of the pallet rack frames.
b. The widths of the decks rely on the lengths of the beams.
The parameters needed for the proper sizes of wire decks are illustrated in the picture below.
The form below shows some differences between them:
Coating Performance |
Painted | Power-coated | Galvanized |
Cost | $ | $$ | $$$ |
Color Options | Varied | Varied | Only one color |
Corrosion Resistance | Normal | Good | Best |
Durability | Normal | Good | Best |
Suitable Environment | Indoor | Indoor/Outdoor | Almost all occasions |
Maintenance | Frequent Touch-ups needed | Regular maintenance | Maintenance free |
A= Outside to outside of the beam
B= Step height ( for box beam, B=0)
C= Inside to inside of the beam
D = Quantity of decks
From the picture, we can see some beam lengths and the corresponding deck widths to match them. And the number of decks needed for each beam level is also determined by the beam length.
4. Protective coating of wire decks
When choosing your best wire decks for the warehouse, the coating material will determine if the wire decks can last long. Painted, power-coated, and galvanized are the most commonly seen coating types in wire decks.
Painted wire decks are cheap and you can have a lot of color options while they tend to scratch or peel after some time which may cause damage to the decks after corrosion.
Powder-coated wire decks can last much longer than painted ones with better durability and corrosion resistance. You can also have more options in texture and color and they are also more environmentally friendly than painted wire decks.
Galvanized wire decks, processing with hot-dipped zinc, can guarantee a lifetime of rust resistance and the overall property is superior. Providing a clean and sanitary surface, galvanized wire decks are ideal for pharmaceutical items and excellent choices for display areas. They can also behave great in extreme temperatures and moisture. And of course, their prices are higher compared with other types of wire decks.
Taking all the factors into account, I believe you could find the functional wire decks that suit your warehouse best.
